According to VideoCardz sources, two partners working with NVIDIA reported their intention to compensate them for the cancellation of RTX 4080 video cards from 12 Gbytes of memory, at least in terms of packaging costs for them.
It's about those partner companies that have already released boxes for the promised video cards, but they haven't been able to wait for the deliveries, and it's reported that the boxes will be collected and destroyed because the finished products are likely to come out under a different name.
According to sources, it seems that the manufacturer will simply forget the intention to produce the corresponding version of GeForce RTX 4080, a conventional sticker with corrected data affixed on top of finished boxes of the sample already produced, is not likely to be sufficient. As long as there is no information as to whether the company will compensate for other costs, including, for example, packing work. As is known, NVIDIA suddenly "denoted" the promised GeForce RTX 408012GB, it is not excluded that the map will still appear in the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti or 4070 series.
However, the cost of packing and preparing for shipment is very significant, and models will have to be removed from the old package, glued with serial numbers and codes, and possibly even resuscitate them, although the latter may be avoided — it is only sufficient to change the name in the driver, and the PCI Vision ID can be kept the same.
The cancellation of GeForce RTX 408012GB is not the first time that NVIDIA changed its plans at the last moment. For example, instead of GeForce RTX 3080 Ti with 20 Gbytes of memory, it was later decided to release the 12 Gbyte version.
However, some GeForce RTX 3080 Ti 20GB cards later appeared on the Russian market, indirectly confirming that the cards had reached a limited series. However, in the case of GeForce RTX 408012GB, technical problems may be much smaller, since there are no major changes to the other name version of GeForce RTX 408012GB if they are made at all.
