Cloudflare reported the largest DDoS attack in the third quarter, targeting the Minecraft server

Cloudfare reported on attacks on clients' resources that were able to be reflected in the third quarter. The largest DDoS attack in the reporting period was directed to Wynncraft, a popular Minecraft server that turns the game into a fully-fledged MMORPG.

The DDoS attack is the bombing of a server by a stream of incoming queries that are generated by a network of compromised, i.e. infected computers and communication devices, by a botnet. Butnet may consist of thousands of such machines, which gives the intruders an opportunity to hit target servers with tens of millions of requests per second. The most powerful botnets include networks of devices infected with the Mirai virus and its versions.

One such Mirai-botnet attacked Wynncraft, throwing it with UDP and TCP requests at a peak of 2.5 Tbits/s. However, proudly told Cloudflare, the service managed not to access the Wynncraft server, and the gamers were not affected by the incident. The attack lasted a little longer than a minute, and the intruder apparently saw its failure and stopped the attack.

However, not all gamers have been as lucky lately: last week, when Overwatch launched two powerful DDoS attacks, the Blizzard servers were exposed, and users could not enter the game for several hours. The developer did his best, but the problem could not be solved quickly, which clouded the debut of the condemned joker.
