Zaptagious's blogger, in a recent video on his YouTube channel, did not hesitate to show what many were afraid to say: The Super Mario Bros. Movie's debut trailer was clearly inspired by Diablo II.
Remember, in a recent video by The Super Mario Bros, Movie Bowzer, along with his turtle army, attacks the kingdom of penguins, and the leader of the birds opposes the villain, but turns out to be powerless against his burning breath.
Zaptagius coaled in this scene several parallels with a film show, opening up the addition of Lord of Destruction to the cult role-player Diablo II of Blizzard.
In the above-mentioned entrance of Diablo II: Lord of Destruction with his army to the fortress at the foot of Mount Arreat comes the demon Baal, who seeks to break into the lands of the barbarians in order to master the sacred Stone of Peace.
As Zaptagious showed in his video by comparing the scenes from The Super Mario Bros. Movie and Diablo II: Lord of Destruction, both sieges use similar directorial techniques and go through one script. In both cases, villains:
- They seek to gain access to foreign lands; they are repelled at the entrance; they kill a member of the defending party without much effort; and they use the form of fire magic to do so.
In order to highlight the similarities and reinforce the comedy effect, Zaptagious replaced some images, slowed down or accelerated others, and commented on the work, praised the blogger for observing and admitted that Bowzer was another brother, Diablo.
Of course, there is no plagiarism, only general sources of inspiration: Diablo II was not the first in the entertainment industry to show the siege of the gate by the villain; American premiere The Super Mario Bros. Movie is expected on April 7, 2023.
