The Director General of the Taiwan National Security Bureau, Chen Min Tun, told the country's legislators that if the PRC invaded, it would not be necessary to damage the TSMC plants; the company's enterprises were closely integrated into external supply chains, including players like the Netherlands ASML, so foreign partners could stop the production without blowing up the plants, Bloomberg reports.

" said Mr. Chen.

The head of the department had to comment on media reports that the US President's administration had begun to plan a possible response to the PRC attack on Taiwan – considerations are purely hypothetical, but they involve the evacuation of TSMC engineers; and last year, American scientists said that tools were needed to rapidly destroy these businesses; in reality, official Washington does not consider such a scenario – the scientists merely suggested that China be told that plants would be destroyed in the event of an invasion, and this is supposed to reduce Beijing's motivation for possible invasion.

Mr Chen also assured Taiwan's legislators that the US would not try to absorb TSMC or lure its employees abroad, although the local semiconductor giant built an ecosystem that left competitors like Intel and Samsung behind.
