India has asked Apple and Samsung to activate 5G support on smartphones as a matter of urgency

Since the launch of the fifth-generation telecommunications network in India, the government has requested Apple, Samsung and other smartphone manufacturers to make priority software updates that activate 5G support in local smartphones.

Since 1 October, 5G services have been announced to be launched by the local operator Reliance Jio in four cities and his rival, Bharti Airtel, in eight. Both companies have announced that the services will be expanded next year. However, Apple models, including even the new iPhone 14, as well as the flagship smartphones Samsung network 5G, do not support.

Tomorrow, representatives of Indian authorities will hold a thematic meeting on the implementation of 5G. It will be attended by Apple, Samsung, Vivo and Xiaomi, as well as local television operators Reliance, Airtel and Vodafone Idea, including the accelerated release of the new software.

According to the authorities, the launch of 5G in the second largest mobile market after China would not only provide high-speed Internet users, but would also provide socio-economic benefits to different sectors of the economy, from agriculture to health care.

In August, Jio, Airtel and Vodafone together spent nearly $20 billion on the 5G frequency auction. Industry sources reported that it would take some time to optimize and organize fifth-generation network compatibility in the country. In particular, today's Airtel website still had a reminder that "Apple has not yet updated software" for the iPhone, from the twelfth model to the fourteenth model. The company noted that many Samsung models are not ready. More than a dozen smartphones are now available for use in new networks. According to sources in the industry, such delays are rather disappointing for Airtel, as many of the iPhone awardees use the iPhone. According to other sources, Apple is already negotiating with operators to ensure the most advantageous terms of cooperation.

The absence of a 5G link after its announcement is annoying for users, including large local businesses. According to Reuters, one of them claimed to have acquired Google Pixel 6a only for fifth-generation networks, but it turns out that the smartphone also requires an upgrade. According to some reports, Google is already negotiating with operators and supporting 5G with its smartphones is planned for about December.
