The vice president and general manager of Stadia Phil Harrison, on Google's official blog, announced the imminent closure of Google Stadia's game cloud service.
As it became known, Google Stadia will cease to exist on January 18, 2023, and all purchases made through Google Store and Stadia Store will be returned to users.
Most of Google's returns are scheduled to be completed by mid-January 2023; access to the acquired content and the game library will be maintained until the day the stream service is shut down.
According to Harrison, despite a strong technological base, Stadia has not been able to gain sufficient popularity in the eyes of Google's management, which has led to the withdrawal of the service.
Harrison added that the platform's capabilities at the base of Stadia go beyond game-making. Google sees the application of this technology in its other divisions, as well as in partner projects.
" assured Harrison.
"Stadia" was launched on November 19, 2019, in 30 countries. The Service offers games without the need to download or install them. It is noteworthy that as early as July, Google rejected rumours that the service would close soon.
