At the annual "Search On" event, Google showed many new ways to search the Internet. You can ask a search engine in a photo format or put it in a microphone, and the search is no longer a link tape: new ways of presenting information can be of interest to the user even without the need to specify the request.
TikTok and Instagram* have changed in many ways the image of the modern Internet, and Google has to change in line with new trends, trying to create a kind of analogy of a recommendive tape in TikTok. Google search engine developers do not yet have a precise answer, which may be similar to this tape, but they are actively working in this direction.
The search manager, Prabhakar Raghavan, noted that Google was trying to move away from a classic model in which to get the right result in the search, it was necessary to form the most correct question. Recent advances in artificial intelligence, machine learning and computer vision would help to change things.
A good example of this is Google Lens with a new MultiSearch function: you can search the image and then adjust the request in the text format. Google's work is illustrated by the example of the dress: take a picture of the green, finish the "violet" and start the search. The classic link tape also starts to change, adding a puzzle of pictures and various information videos. Another example is the "Immersive View" function in Google maps, which allows you to look in detail at the place where a person wants to go.
In other words, today's search is no longer a question-and-answer system; it turns into a system of research and study of information, a tool for discovery and attempts to find out what direct answers are simply not. Most users still come to Google to find "Facebook" or "The Weather", but there are also those who open the search without a specific intention: they hear a new term for themselves, they want to learn more about some kind of sightseeing or singer Adele . These are people who can start a web search at TikTok, and the Internet they tend to perceive as a tool with a natural visual interface.
Another way to improve the quality of the search is by pop-up clues: the system tries to expand the search area by providing options according to the content of a particular user; the search engine is increasingly understanding the content and context of the queries; and ranking the results according to relevance is constantly improving: the more the user spins the page, the less the results match his request.
The most important question is the reliability of the information in the sources. Mr. Raghavan stated that Google promises users universal access to information that is not prohibited by law and is not subject to any restrictive policy. The job of the search engine is to offer users useful information, but the right of final decision remains with the user. But there are also questions that are not explicitly answered, and work in this direction in the company never ceases.
