Head of Respawn: in Battlefield 2042, DICE went too far from the roots

The Director General of Respawn Entertainment, Vince Zampella, shared his thoughts about the bad launch and criticism of Battlefield 2042 in an interview with Barrons.

The former head of Infinity Ward is of the opinion that DICE has tried to implement a few too ambitious things for the team, but seems not to have paid due attention to the gameplay, which has made the innovation less interesting and exciting, leading to criticism of the project by the community.

And it wasn't a bad idea for Battlefield, said Zampellah, but the way the studio worked it was, it just didn't allow the team to realize what it was supposed to be.

In May, DICE cancelled 128 Battlefield 2042 players, and the studio recently confirmed plans to introduce a class system, which would make the project more similar to previous members of the series.

Battlefield 2042 was released on November 19, 2021 at the PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X and S, and PlayStation 5.
