Samsung Display, according to online sources, has acquired Flex G brand rights, under which mobile devices in a new form-factor, equipped with a flexible display with two bend lines, could eventually be released.
Samsung's idea is that the Flex G device will have a large flexible screen, the side parts of which can fold inside the shell. Theoretically, there may be an auxiliary display on the outside of such a gadget. Thus, the user will get a smartphone hybrid and a tablet.
The Flex G is registered with the Korea Intellectual Property Authority. In addition, Samsung Display had previously obtained the S Flex brand for a device whose sections of the hull are folded like a harmonica, leaving one of the three parts outside.
It is not yet clear when such gadgets may appear in the commercial market, but it should be noted that their prototypes have already been demonstrated during the CES 2022 consumer electronics exhibition.
Observers also believe that Samsung Display can arrange for the delivery of flexible displays with two bend lines to outside mobile device developers; the company itself does not comment on the situation.
