Wireless TWS headphones, HUAWEI FreeBuds Pro, released a couple of years ago, at a relatively low price, were of excellent sound quality, intelligent noise pressure, and the ability to connect directly to two devices at the same time. It was time to talk about their follower, HUAWEI FreeBuds Pro 2.
In fact, major improvements were not required for HUAWEI FreeBuds Pro – in a couple of years, wireless headphone technology did not leap forward, and the model remained more than relevant. But there are no limits to improvement, as you can see. HUAWEI FreeBuds Pro 2 does not change the very formula of successful first "blank", but add to it a few fresh ingredients: two sound modules in each earpiece, a triple adaptive evalier, an improved noise support system, improved voice transmission in voice calls, and, finally, the involvement of Devialet in the creation and setting of headphones.
But let's start with something that hasn't changed much from design to headphones hiding in a long case that seems to be a little longer, and this is the first time we're talking about headphones.
In white performance, however, it is not easy to see differences – the general style is left unchanged, as is the location of the functional elements: the USB Type-C port, together with the charge indicator on the lower surface, the forced interface button well disguised on the hull – on the right side, but there are other colour variations, with which HUAWEI FreeBuds Pro 2 looks fresh and more interesting – blinking silver and perlamutro blue. The Keys weighs 52 grams and is easily placed in any pocket.
The headphones continue to be placed inside the case in a non-standard way: dynamics to each other, in shallow falls, where the small legs of each headphone are magnetized. Between the headphones you can see the indicator of the current level of charge: it burns green at about 100% charge, yellow at about 50% charge and red, with the battery in the case fully discharged.
The general style of the headphones has not changed – large droplets of inner-channel lobsters and selected black extra dynamics and short legs with their microphones and HUAWEI inscriptions. The microphones on FreeBuds Pro 2, however, have moved from a vertical plane to the lower end of the legs.
As I have just pointed out, HUAWEI FreeBuds Pro 2 is done using an intra-channel pattern – with silicone liners that are good at keeping headphones in their ears – with the right size of the headphones, of course. Problems not only to walk peacefully by wearing HUAWEI FreeBuds Pro 2, but also to actively engage in sports – no headphones do not pop out of their ears in almost any way. And it doesn't feel like each headphone weighs 6.1 grams. The headphones are protected from moisture in the IP54 standard – you can also use them in the rain.
In addition, there is an intellectual system used to determine the size of the headphones, which headphones themselves "understand" what is the best way to use in your ears, using the AI Life brand application.
In order to be able to use smartphone headphones, the app is not required in principle. The smartphone HUAWEI will automatically notice the headphones next door, only to open the case, and the Android-smartphone or the Windows laptop will "see" in such a case, the headphones on the Bluetooth interface list, and only to work with the iOS device will you need to use a forced interface button. The earphones use the latest Bluetooth 5.2 module and have two antennas each, thus providing coverage for the 360° signal. The connection is actually stable, and I have not noticed any problem synchronizing HUAWEI FreeBuds Pro 2 between them.
In the AI Life application, you can also manually adjust the noise replacement, update the software, set up the evaliser, search for the headphones by signaling them, and so on. The curious moment is that the headphones work not just with the noname embroidery, but at least on the HarmonyOS base, at least it alerts AI Life when you update the headphone embroidery.
In fact, HUAWEI FreeBuds Pro 2 is very smart. In addition to passive noise control, a dense inter-channel seat also provides a system of active noise support, with three degrees of work: "enhanced", "compatible" and "general". You cannot choose between them manually, you can choose which level you need right now, and you can do it very effectively. You can only turn off the noise pressure at all or switch to sound-proof mode.
But not only are the intellectual functions HUAWEI FreeBuds Pro 2 really able to impress sound. The main dynamics use a dynamic 11 mm diameter radiator, add sound coils to it. The declared range of reproducible frequencies is 14 Hz to 48 kHz. The sound adapts to the current playback and the way you wear the earphones: the triple adaptive ecvalier automatically controls the audio effects; the headphones can recognize the bearing status, and the inner microphone in real time determines the position of the earphones in the ears and calculates the compensatory difference by analysing the sound leak. Thus, the position of the device does not affect the quality of music play.
I'm very pleased with the scene that HUAWEI FreeBuds Pro 2 is capable of, and the details of the sound, and very deep bass. If not the best TWS headphones I've ever encountered, they're definitely one of the best.
Microphones are, of course, used not only to filter sounds during noise suppression, but also to use HUAWEI FreeBuds Pro 2 as a garrison. Again, there is an entire intellectual system that is provided by three microphones, a bone conductivity sensor, and a deep neural network algorithm that is able to recognize the human voice with high accuracy and ensure the qualitative suppression of external noise during calls.
The case continues to support wireless charging -- you can charge headphones, for example, in the back panel of HUAWEI P50 Pro, with its support for reverse wireless charging. When the case is fully charged, it should last about 30 hours to play music. The same full charge of the headphones themselves will last about 6.5 hours of music when the noise is off-line and 4 hours when the music is on.
With all their virtues, HUAWEI FreeBuds Pro 2 kept a fairly affordable value – $299
