This week, scientists published an image based on images taken by the James Web Space Telescope of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration from 690 separate images taken by the NIRCam near infrared camera.
According to available data, the image of Epoch 1 shows distant galaxies whose light has shifted from visible to infrared during time and space travel. The participating scientists in the CEERS project have stated that the image of Epoch 1 covers less than half of the total area studied.
It is noted that the images from James Webb's tools have already led to new scientific discoveries and have helped to detect the many galaxies that have never been observed before. One of them was the Macy galaxy, named after the daughter of the CEERS project leader Stephen Finkelstein. It is believed that this galaxy could be one of the oldest galaxies that a person has ever seen. Scientists estimate that it could appear less than 400 million years after the Big Bang.
A complete version of Epoch 1 can be viewed on the official page of the CEERS project. Scientists will continue their research on distant galaxies based on data from the James Webb Space Telescope.
