SpaceX's Starlink project is already eclipsed by its competitors

With its famous satellite group Starlink, Ilon Mask has already successfully positioned himself against some of the industry's giants, gradually approaching the productivity of terrestrial broadband connections, Starlink has become the best supplier of satellite Internet in the United States.

In April 2021, the Starlink project won another victory, and the US Federal Communications Commission granted SpaceX authorization to operate 2,814 of its satellites in lower orbits than planned.

More importantly, Starlink is said to obscure current satellite Internet suppliers, such as HugeNet and Viasat. In an article of August 5, 2021, ZDnet published a study by Speedtest.net, which analysed the performance of various suppliers. However, Starlink far exceeds its competitors by carefully approaching terrestrial broadband offers.

Speedtest.net mainly looked at the productivity of various services available in the United States. In the United States, Starlink is the provider closest to traditional broadband offers, as evidenced by the loading rate of 97.23 Mbit/s in the second quarter of 2021, which is very close to the median loading speed of fixed broadband providers.

The average download rate of Starlink data. Again, the other two providers are lagging far behind.

The reason is simply because of the technology used. The Starlink constellation is located at an altitude of 550 to 1,200 km, while the Hugenet and Viasat geosynchronous satellites are at an altitude of about 35,000 km. Thanks to fewer satellites located further from the Earth, these providers cover a large area, but the signal delay is increasing dramatically. Therefore, Starlink is the best provider of satellite Internet in the United States and can become one in many other countries.
