The Xiaomi Group first revealed the details of the development of autonomous driving technology for cars, which began in March 2021. Since then, the Chinese company has made considerable progress and has already started testing the autopilot in the street environment.
According to available data, the Xiaomi unit for the development of the autonomous driving system currently has more than 500 staff members, with 3.3 billion Yuan invested in the first phase of the initiative, and the company also reported a number of valuable acquisitions and strategic investments in extractive and processing industries to build its own medium- and long-term industrial autonomous driving capacity.
The company also showed a video in which the Xiaomi car showed accurate, safe and intelligent driving in different scenarios, including turns, ringing and continuous movement under the mountain.
The successful development of the autonomous driving system was facilitated by the purchase of a master startup, Shendong Technology, which enabled Xiaomi to expand its technological experience and human capacity, and the ultimate goal of the company is to become a leader in autonomous driving by 2024. To achieve this goal, Xiaomi plans to set up a fleet of 140 autopilot machines to be used to test technology throughout China.
