Now headphones can accurately diagnose three major ear diseases

A group of researchers from Buffalo University used Bluetooth headphones and an artificial intelligence system for deep learning to diagnose three common ear diseases using a simple non-invasive audio test, using sounds similar to the sonar signal to determine the structure of the ear.

The EarHealth system uses a set of Bluetooth earphones, supplemented by microphones directed inside. They are connected to the smartphone application. It sends a sound signal to the ear, and then the microphones record how it is reflected in the ear canals. All of this allows the system to create a profile of the unique form of each user ' s inner ear.

The readings are taken while the user is healthy in order to understand the structure of a healthy ear. Then the same change test is run periodically. In human trials involving 92 volunteers, the system diagnosed three common diseases that change the geometry of the ear by simply checking changes in the inner ear to an accuracy of 82.6 per cent.

The headphones record three states: earplug blockage, rupture of eardrums, and mean bone, and in many cases the system identified them long before they were a serious problem.
