AMD Ryzen processors and Radeon RX graphics will appear in more electric vehicles

The flagman electric vehicles Tesla Model S and Model X switched to the AMD components after restiling last year, and the special pride of the partners was the increased productivity of the on-board multimedia system, which allowed for the launch of sufficiently demanding games and approached the capabilities of modern game consoles. Now the AMD, with the support of ECARX, is ready to offer its discrete graphic solutions to different auto manufacturers.

Let us recall that the younger Tesla Model 3 and Model Y, in the course of the planned upgrade, have also shifted to the use of AMD components, albeit more modest in the form of Ryzen processors for embedded systems, but this has greatly improved the responsiveness of the on-board multimedia system user interface, which is generally very rich in graphic information and is constantly evolving in this sense.

Today, a press release on the AMD website announced that the company had begun to collaborate with ECARX, the manufacturer of on-board information and entertainment systems for cars. The solutions of this brand, for example, are the latest models of Volvo and its parent company, Geely. The first digital driver's cockpit, as its partners call it, will be created jointly by the end of 2023, combining the Ryzen Embedded V2000 processors and the discrete RX 6000 series of the Radeon RDNA 2 series with the RDNA architecture.

Support for multiple displays, including projection and rich entertaining functions for second-row passengers in such a system, will be combined with the availability of a rich driver ' s toolbox, including a voice command recognition system with several working areas inside the passenger compartment; accordingly, AMD solutions may appear in the products of those car manufacturers who will cooperate with ECARX.
