The first launch of three Gonetz-M spacecraft from the East launch site is tentatively scheduled for 22 October, as reported by an informed source in the space and missile industry.
These satellites are the backbone of the Gonets-D1M personal communications platform. It provides data transfer and mobile services to subscribers globally. The Gonets-D1M infrastructure includes ground stations in Moscow, South Sahelinsk and Ironsogorsk. The platform serves to provide communications to hard-to-reach areas, data transmission networks for various agencies, industrial, environmental and scientific monitoring.
As TASS notes, the exact timing of the launch of the new Gonets-M satellites will depend on the readiness of the first Sfera, Skeef-D, which is currently under development at the M.F. Rechetnev Information Satellite Systems AO.
The State Corporation Roscosmos reports that the Fregat booster, designed to launch Gonetz-M and the Internet broadband demonstration satellite Skeef-D, has already arrived in the East.
