The Lucid Motors startup, which produces luxurious electric vehicles, has announced a change in production plans. If the company intended to deliver about 20,000 cars in 2022, it is now planning to release only 67,000. As long as the company delivered only 1,405 vehicles this year, the pressure on production lines in the second half of the year must be unprecedented, or even the new plan will not be implemented.
In a report to investors, the California Startup announced the planned structural changes to both the company and the chain of interaction with suppliers in order to increase the volume of production, and the management stated that it had already identified the main bottlenecks and was taking the necessary steps to eliminate them, from optimization of logistics to recruitment of new staff.
In addition to the volume of production problems, in May the manufacturer had to respond to a new challenge: to withdraw all copies of Air 2022 electric vehicles due to electrical problems, more than 1,000 vehicles; however, even such problems did not affect the high demand for premium-class electric vehicles; today, according to the company itself, 37,000 orders for the Lucid Air electric sedan were registered; and Lucid Motors plans to sell more than 100,000 electric vehicles to the Government of Saudi Arabia, which invested more than $1 billion in the start-up and owns more than 62% of the company.
