Omdia published a recent forecast of the world market for displays that are expected to be close to the user ' s eyes. The demand on this type of panel is thought by analysts to be rapidly increasing.
This is primarily about screens for extended XR or Extended Reality devices. This term refers to all kinds of virtual reality devices.
In 2020, it is estimated that the world's supply of Near-Eye Display panels was about 10.2 million. In 2021, the shipment reached 14.6 million, an increase of 43 per cent. This year, an increase of 73.8 per cent is expected: if this forecast is met, the market will reach 25.3 million. In 2023, the shipment will reach about 39.0 million and in 2024 it will reach 53.0 million.
In 2028, Omdia believed that the shipment would reach 139.0 million.
Analysts have identified three main reasons for this rapid development of the industry: the increase in XR sales, the development of meta-humans, and the use of gadget designs with paired displays instead of singles.
