There's a robot that digs tunnels 100 times faster and 98% cheaper

Most of the tunnels dug today have made mechanical rotor-brilliant machines, which are labour-intensive and expensive, and cutting heads and drills often need to be replaced or maintained.

But you can drill without touching the stone walls, and this equipment can build whole tunnels without stopping if necessary. The new device can only operate on electricity, so there's no emissions to the environment. Earthgrid says it's much faster and cheaper than making it all mechanical.

===Earthgrid===Earthgrid is now working on pre-financing. During its work, the developers placed several plasma burners with a temperature of 27,000 °C on large discs in front of the robot.

The founder of Earthgrid Troy Helming plans to implement the concept using 72 plasma burners to drill a well 1 m long. Each burner consumes a minimum of 500 kW, so the total capacity consumed is 40 megawatts.

Earthgrid claims that, in high-speed configuration, the device can deliver tunnels at a speed of up to 1 km per day, which he claims is 100 times faster than the existing drilling rigs.

The minimum configuration is $300 per metre of tunnel.
