On the way to the metaverse: VKontakte launched virtual user avatars

In the social network VKontakte, it is possible to create virtual avatars. T. n. vmoji is created by means of facial recognition technologies supplemented by generic ML models. The new function allows not only to create avatar, but also to make unique stickers based on the image used.

Information about the new function came out last month. Now everyone can use the new feature. The stickers are supposed to help the user audience to demonstrate their own style and sense of humor. They have quite a wide range of applications, ranging from chat rooms to stories, videos, and even comments on publications.

The avatar will look like a person in a loaded photo. To create a character, you can choose a profile or download an attractive image or even take a selfie, and neuronet algorithms will offer the appearance of the avatar, and the author can edit the results by changing the face and color of the skin, hair, and clothes.

An additional bonus was the opportunity to put the avatar on a digital T-shirt dedicated to the VK Fest event, which will take place in St. Petersburg, Moscow and Sochi from 23 to 24 July.

The basic vmoji set is available free of charge to users. Those who wish to do so can add unique features to the image for money.
