The manufacturer of Rimac electric hypercars is interested in creating type 4680 batteries

Initially, the 4680 lithium batteries were developed by Panasonic specialists in cooperation with Tesla, but two more companies, LG Energy Solution and Samsung SDI, are about to release them. According to comments by Croatian Rimac representatives, this manufacturer of electric hypercars is also interested in batteries of this type.

Let's not forget that after the restructuring, Rimac has become a multidisciplinary holding company, and one of its strategic development is to produce components for off-road electric vehicles. For more than a decade now, Rimac has been involved in the development of high-efficiency traction batteries for more than 30 different projects involving more than 10 partners with the world's name. By the way, only the British Aston Martin and Swedish Koenigsegg have so far acknowledged their interest in Rimac's development, as Electrek recalls. It should be borne in mind that Rimac's shareholders are the Porsche with its own brand of Bugatti, as well as the South Korean autogiant Hyundai Motor.

In an interview with Autopotive News Europe, Rimac Technology Manager Vasim Sarwar Dylov admitted to the company's work on battery cells close to 4680. Recall that the first pair of digits in this designation represents the diameter of the cell in millimeters and the second pair its height. In the case of Rimac, there is no doubt about the use of 46 mm diameter, but the height of the cylindrical cell may vary depending on the modification. Samsung SDI, let us recall, fluctuated over the diameter, initially limiting the height to 80 mm.

Rimac is also negotiating with three battery manufacturers on the supply of specific products for the company ' s needs. The Croatian developer is already running 12 independent projects for different car manufacturers, most of which are not Rimac investors. Like Tesla, the company is going to integrate the traction battery into the power structure of electric vehicles, and 46 mm diameter cells in this sense will play a key role.
